Sweater Over Dress

I am joining in again with the ladies at Fine Linen and Purple where we link up our Sunday Fashions for inspiration and eye candy ;)

You will be seeing me with my hair up a lot. I have been growing it out since last year when I cut it almost pixie style. NOW, it is neither short nor long but almost shoulder length. This is the point where I panic because I can't stand it and I chop it off! Again. Not pixie but usually in some sort of bob. It repeats every year.

As a busy mom of two with a hardly home hubs' in grad school and working-I need my hair to look good quickly. So I always try to find an amazing glamour cut. Okay the hubs' is laughing now because I say this a lot but allow me to explain. I try to find that hair-cut that looks amazing in and-of itself whether I had time to shower that day or it was a night of a double ear-infection in my sweet baby girl (has been the case this week).

For you lucky ladies out there with thick hair, long and flowing locks-jealous am I ;) I have two problems with my hair or three maybe. It is baby fine, it is very thin and it is neither straight, nor curly when left naturally. If I leave it Au natural -it is limp and looks like I slept on it for days. Luckily, I have mastered two techniques to help my limp flat hair: blowing drying and helping the wave with diffuser drying. Both are pretty quick at about 15 mins for drying/straightening and 10 for diffusing.

Long story, short-my hair is not in the glamour cut phase (not that you can't have it at this length-I just have to keep it up or I will chop it off. My own personal issues.) so I will be styling quick up-do's that look glamorous. Today's look: slick-backed side parted pony with a sparkly hair band (in back no-photo's-blast).

Slicking back a pony tail is super quick and since my hair is low-key I can take more time on make-up adding fiery red lipstick and eye-liner. I will do a post soon on my hair techniques to help explain all my madness.

I already wore this dress here with a pink blazer but wanted a whole new look so I layered an old but favorite sweater of mine over. Viola! An entire new outfit for nothing. I get excited just thinking of the new possibilities with this dress....

  1. I think we might have the same hair. The only difference is that I have a lot of real estate on my forehead, so wearing it up isn't very flattering!

    $7 dress= AWESOME!

    1. "lots of real estate" - I love it! I do, too, but I've never thought to describe it that way! I like to thing it the forehead of champions...

    2. Haha that is funny Stacy! My hubby has a lot of real estate too. It is funny thought we always styled his hair down and then last months vogue issue had a guy that looked similar to him-forehead and all and he had it styled really high up. I convinced my hubby to let me cut his hair and style it up exposing his forehead and he and many others have loved it! We thought disguising was best but turned out opposite.

  2. That dress! I love a good black dress. And, I feel your pain on the hair, but mine's too short to pull back. Yours looks great, though!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn. My hubby is like it looks fine. But remember I can't have it blah fine it has to be glamour fine. Lol. I defnitely don't have the bouncy shiny Cameron Diaz hair to wear it mid length and it look amazing.

    1. You know what is funny? I get alot of ideas from People Style Watch. They feature a ton of celebs and what they are wearing everyday and out at night. In the September issue-many layered sweaters over a dress and I loved it! It seriously doubles my skirt wardrobe.

    1. I have always thought that sweater was beautiful but in high school/college my style was more beach-say Hollister and Abercrombie (but I was very selective because those can be quite immodest) and argyle was not "me". I saved it though cuz I knew someday I would need to dress older than a beach teen. Alas that day came really soon!

  5. I admit, I do have thick hair. But I've definitely gone thru the oh-my-gosh-what-length-is-this-I-can't-stand-it-anymore thing and chopped it off all over again. Right now I'm making excellent progress on growing my locks out. I want a Pocahontas braid :-) Plus, it's really windy where we live so almost every gal here keeps their hair short. I want to be different! A braid would work well with the wind anyhow.

    1. Your is fantastic! I love thick hair. My hair is actually so thin that I wanted it half up and half down for my wedding and the hairstylist was stumped. She was like-I can't with as little as you have. I was fortunate enough to have a great wedding budget so I actually had hair extensions! I thought wow, this is what girls with hair feel like.

  6. Great idea layering the sweater over a dress! Love the argyle. I go through the same thing w/ my hair- chop it short in the hopes it will amazingly style itself, and then grow it out. C'est la vie.

    1. I know about short hair styling itself but because my hair is so thin when it is short I can blow it out in minutes and it looks full and fantastic. I am blessed in that I can (with patience) make my hair LOOK like it is full and thick.
